"If there’s a lot of chances then you know a goal is going to come soon"

Oli Hawkins says that he is going to remain patient in his pursuit of his first goal in Town colours.

The striker made his first league start in the 2-0 win over Rochdale at the weekend and went close to breaking the deadlock on three occasions.

First, Rochdale 'keeper Gavin Bazunu turned away his powerful header with a spectacular save before Oli's sweetly hit half-volley struck the post and he saw another headed effort cleared off the line.

"The first one - the header - was a brilliant save," he told iFollow Ipswich. "I don’t know how he saved it. I felt like I made a good connection and it should have gone in but he pulled off an unbelievable save.

"I had a left-footed shot that hit the post and one off the line. As long as you are getting those chances and in the box, you know as a striker that you just need to relax and the goal will come.

"Once one comes, they come likes buses - all at the same time. I’m just going to stay patient.

"If you’re a striker and the chances aren’t there, then you’re in trouble. If there’s a lot of chances then you know a goal is going to come soon."
