Honours even after comeback from the Blues

Town came from 2-0 behind to draw against Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road.

After Conor Chaplin's penalty was saved, efforts from Michael Smith and George Byers saw the visitors take control of the game.

Nathan Broadhead netted a stunning free-kick late in the first half to pull one back for the Blues, with Leif Davis converting from a set piece of his own early in the second period to level proceedings.

Town dominated the vast majority of the second half but could not find the winner.

Kieran McKenna named four changes from the previous weekend's draw at Cambridge as Luke Woolfenden, Cameron Burgess, Cameron Humphreys and George Hirst returned to the starting XI.

Both sides had chances inside a lively opening 10 minutes, with Chaplin's deflected shot being claimed by Cameron Dawson following a pull-back from Broadhead before Smith blazed a volley over at the other end.

Town were awarded a golden chance to take the lead with just over 15 minutes played as the referee, after discussions with his assistant who had spotted the initial incident involving Wes Burns, pointed to the penalty spot. Chaplin's spotkick from 12 yards, however, was saved by the feet of Dawson.

Wednesday opened the scoring on 27 minutes as Smith headed Josh Windass' whipped cross from close to the corner flag on the left wing into the top corner of Christian Walton's goal.

Seven minutes later, the visitors made it 2-0, with Byers finding the bottom corner after Barry Bannan's deep cross had dropped to him inside the area.

Broadhead pulled one back for the Blues with two minutes of regulation time remaining in the first half, curling a delightful free-kick into the top corner, via the underside of the bar, from the edge of the D to open his account for the Club.

Town began the second half with the same intensity that they ended the first and, with just over five minutes played, found the equaliser. The goal, once again, came from a free-kick as Davis' effort from around 30 yards, which may well have taken a deflection off a head on the way through, found the top corner.

The Blues' dominance continued with Chaplin seeing a well-struck volley from the edge of the area caught, before his header from a Davis corner was also claimed by Dawson.

Aden Flint could have regained the lead for Wednesday as the match entered the final 15 minutes but, after his initial header following a deep free-kick had been blocked back into his path, he volleyed over from a tight angle.

Freddie Ladapo saw a late shot fall just wide as the visitors held on to claim a share of the spoils.
