Young Blues fall short in Wales
Town U21s fell to a 4-2 defeat against Cardiff City in the Professional Development League today.
Tawanda Chirewa and Osman Foyo found the back of the net for the young Blues in the Welsh capital.
After an even start, Cardiff opened the scoring in the 21st minute. From almost 30 yards out, Joel Bagan fired a free-kick into the top corner via the underside of the bar.
Just two minutes later the hosts doubled their advantage as Cameron Antwi found the bottom corner with a left-footed strike from the edge of the box.
The Bluebirds were reduced to 10 men in the 26th minute. Leon Ayinde latched on to a through ball and got across his man before being brought down. Aidan MacNamara was dismissed by the referee following his foul as last man.
The home side held on to their two-goal lead until the hour mark, when Chirewa pounced to finish from close range after pinball in the penalty area.
In the 74th minute Cardiff scored their third as Cian Ashford fired in after his initial effort had been saved, but then spilled, by Woody Williamson.
Just two minutes later the Blues reduced the deficit again when Osman Foyo headed in from Rio Morgan's corner.
Town continued to push but the result was put beyond doubt in the dying stages when Ashford scored his second, and the home side's fourth, following a counter-attack.
John McGreal's side are next in Professional Development League action away to Crewe on 27 March.
