Town striker George Hirst has been called up for international duty by Scotland for the first time.

The 26-year-old qualifies for Scotland through his paternal grandfather and, having previously represented England up to U20 level, has officially committed himself to Steve Clarke’s side.

He will now join up with Scotland ahead of potentially making his international debut in the upcoming Nations League Play-Off clashes with Greece.

The first leg is being played in Piraeus on Thursday, 20 March before the return at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Sunday, 23 March.

The winners of the two-legged tie will play in League A of the Nations League.

Hirsty joins Town team-mate Cieran Slicker in the senior Scotland squad, after the goalkeeper was called up last week.
