The Town skipper joined the Club in the summer of 2021 from Middlesbrough, becoming the 19th and final signing of an extremely busy transfer window. 

He made 38 appearances during his first campaign with the club, scoring three goals, before featuring 49 times and scoring four goals during his second, in which he captained the club to promotion. 

The Blues’ skipper notably netted winning goals away at Forest Green Rovers and MK Dons during the campaign, while playing a central role throughout a hugely successful season for the Club. 

The 2023/24 campaign proved to be a memorable one for the skipper who led Town to a second promotion in as many seasons, scoring twice and assisting seven in 44 appearances.

A midfielder with significant Championship experience, having featured regularly in the second tier for Middlesbrough, Barnsley and Wigan Athletic, Sam has previously won two promotions from League One with the Latics. 

Prior to that he spent three seasons with Chesterfield, having begun his career with Port Vale.
